Welcome to my ePortfolio where you will learn about me, my journey into the world of communication, my professional development, and my reflections on education. As many communication scholars have noted, it’s impossible not to communicate. Whether we communicate intentionally or unintentionally, a communication takes place. Intentional communication is simple to define. It’s the words we use, either vocal or non vocal, or the messages we convey, either verbal or nonverbal, to describe our thoughts. Unintentional communication is less obvious. It’s the messages we convey, most oftentimes nonverbally, without thought or intention that complete a communication transaction without any awareness. Many years ago, as a young girl from New Jersey, I decided my future would be in the field of Communication. After receiving a Bachelors degree in Communication Studies from Emerson College in Boston, MA, I became involved with Speech and Drama as an educator. Then, the advertising field seemed a natural workshop, as it offered the added dimensions of visual and written forms of communication.
Upon relocation to the Twin Cities, opportunities revealed themselves within marketing, communications equipment consulting, international presentational support services and both print and internet publishing. Most recently, nation-wide test assessment management, communication consulting within the area of gerontology, and collegiate instruction have offered opportunities to further utilize an education within the varied elements of the fields of human communication.
